Can someone tell me why the web jumped to video directly?
“Odeo”:http://odeo.com founder Evan Williams is selling his company and apparently wants to develop twitter. Apparently, twitter is more economically viable, with its SMS feature.
I know that video is all the rage on the Internet: youtube, veoh networks, cuts.com, joost, myspace videos, metacafe … It looks like a new service is born every week, and content doesn’t seem to dry either.
This is all right for me, but I am always suprised how we skipped the audio on the Internet, and went directly from blogs and newspapers to video platforms. I believe Odeo is the youtube of podcasting. They have the same bandwidth problems, have also some usability problems, but have a great potential. Now the founder seems to send the message that Odeo is not economically viable.
So i ask the question, why would youtube be economically viable? and why don’t they insert for instance 5 second ads in podcasts?

Today, I went to the beach with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her ear and screamed.
